Planned Giving

A charitable bequest is one of the most meaningful legacies you can provide for your loved ones and for your favorite organizations. Through a bequest you can make a gift to the Monterey Public Library, via the Friends & Foundation, while also realizing your estate and financial planning goals.
You can make your bequest through your will or living trust. If you already have a will or trust, you can add a bequest to benefit the Monterey Public Library by creating a simple codicil or trust amendment. Regardless of the instrument you use, be sure to seek the assistance of your attorney.
Another simple way to make a future gift is to name the Monterey Public Library Friends & Foundation as a percentage beneficiary of your IRA or other retirement plan. You simply need to name the “Monterey Public Library Friends and Foundation” (tax ID number 91-1976593) as a beneficiary on a Change of Beneficiary form with your plan administrator.

There are many other ways to make a planned gift and create a legacy:

  • Gifts of assets that return lifetime income such as charitable remainder trusts
  • Beneficiary designations in savings accounts and insurance policies
  • Gifts of real estate
  • Charitable gift annuities.

For more information about including the Library in your estate plans, please call Toula Hubbard, Fund Development Officer, at (831) 646-5632 or email info@investinmpl.org.

If you have already made a planned-giving arrangement for the Monterey Public Library, we hope you will complete our confidential form so we can thank you, learn how you would like to be recognized for this gift, and enroll you in the 1849 Legacy Society.

“The only thing you absolutely have to know, is the location of the library.”
Albert Einstein, Theoretical Physicist (1879-1955)

“Libraries have been an essential partner in our lifetime pursuit of knowledge gained through education, experience, and science. Monterey Public Library provides us with myriad materials and services, supported by capable and caring staff, that enable us to continue to expand our horizons.

Through our charitable bequest to California’s first library we acknowledge the many benefits we received over the years from libraries around the nation. We hope others will join us in “paying it forward” so our local community members will continue to have access to trusted information and recreational resources through the Monterey Public Library for generations to come.”
